26th October – 4th November
This eight-day course is presented by ITC in collaboration with the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) and DBE TECHNOLOGY, hosted by the latter, and with the participation of the Claustal University of Technology, Germany. It is a component of the IAEA Network programme for 2009 (see below).
The course is designed for project managers and scientists, regulatory agencies and geoscientific organisations concerned with the development of geological repositories for long-lived wastes in sedimentary formations.
The course will cover all the fundamental aspects of geological disposal in sedimentary environments and societal aspects of repository siting and development, with a special 1-day exercise covering safety assessment methodology.
A highlight of the course will be the visits to two important underground facilities including a 1-day trip to visit the candidate site for a repository in a salt formation for high level waste and a 1-day trip to visit the Konrad mine, which is being converted into a LLW and ILW repository (below). A tour and dinner in Goslar, the beautiful UNESCO heritage site is also included (above).

More information on this course can be found on the ITC website (www.itc-school.org) or by following the link below. Final deadline for registration is 25th September, however places are limited and registration should be done soon to avoid disappointment!
